­­­­­­­­­­­­­Whitby Regatta - Captured From a New Perspective:

It’s no secret that the Regatta is one of Whitby’s most popular annual events.  With tourists coming from far and wide to enjoy the celebrations, you don’t have to look too hard to see those all so familiar cameras.

This year’s event photography took a twist, with Regatta organisers utilising a drone to capture the event from a new perspective.

Local businessman, Dan Spilman and his team were on hand from his Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Company, Resolution UAV Services, to obtain exciting footage of the event from the air.  Here you can see some of the spectacular shots from not only the Regatta, but the beautiful scenery Whitby coast has to offer.

The drone, piloted by a fully qualified Dan, made an appearance on Sunday and Monday of the Regatta during which time the High Definition camera, mounted on the drone, captured unique images and videos of various events taking place including the fun run, motocross and the rowing races.  Better still, the weather conditions meant that Dan and his team could operate as planned.

Being a local lad, Dan has attended the Regatta for many years, but this year has been special for him in many ways, ‘‘I’ve always loved the Regatta, it’s such a fantastic event and really shows what Whitby town is all about, to be able to get involved as a local business really has been great!  Not to mention the opportunity to talk to other small businesses in the region.’’

The Regatta Committee members are already reaping the benefits of the footage obtained, the images and videos are helping them to plan next year’s event due to the unique perspective of the stalls, displays and entertainment which simply would not have been possible from the ground.  The Regatta Committee can now use the footage to utilise space on the pier more effectively for future events.
